Supporting Trans Students After the Reversal of Title IX Protections in Schools

On February 22nd, 2017, the Trump Administration reversed guidance put in place in 2016 by the Obama Administration that called for schools to support students in choosing bathrooms that corresponded with their gender identities.

Transgender activist Janet Mock claims that this essentially denies trans students "the right to exist in public spaces". In addition, she tweeted: "I was a trans student. I know how vital it is to feel safe, welcomed and affirmed. Equal access allowed to me attend, stay and thrive in school."

The following articles and opinion pieces highlight the need to support trans students and provide concrete examples of how school personnel can help.
