Books We're Excited About in 2020

There are lots of new gender inclusive books coming out in 2020! Here are just a few.


Martin is a seventh grader with a penchant for math and a newfound love of drag performance. He explores both his drag persona and his true identity as he figures out whether he likes girls or boys, or both. The book is best for grade five and up.










I'm Gonna Push Through! by Jasmyn Wright

This inspiring picture book encourages kids to push past adversity to be themselves, stand their ground, and make a difference in the world. Wright's words encourage children to stand up for one another as well as for themselves.









Papa, Daddy, & Riley by Seamus Kirst

In this new picture book, Riley adores her two fathers. But when a classmate asks Riley which is her "real" dad, Riley becomes worried that he has to choose one or the other.











Written about Mamie "Peanut" Johnson, this picture book about the first black woman to play professional baseball for a Negro Leagues team is perfect for students aged 8-12.











I'm Not a Girl by Maddox Lyons and Jessica Verdi

Geared toward the 4-8 set, this book was inspired by the true story of 12 year old Maddox Lyons' experience. In it, protagonist Hannah shows the world he is not a girl, despite people in his life insisting he is.
