Inclusive and Affirming Puberty and Sex Ed Books

We were recently asked to share our favorite puberty books for young children. Unfortunately, books that reject the binary are few and far between. We recommend some favorites, below.

Sex is Funny Word is written like a graphic novel. When discussing bodies, the book refers to "people with a vulva" and "people with a penis". This book is inclusive and sex-positive.

What Makes a Baby explains that babies join families in all different ways. The careful descriptions and creative illustrations allow for all birth stories and family structures to be represented.

In a refreshing approach, Tell Me About Sex, Grandma explains that sex exists separately from reproduction, and that it is different for everyone. Grandma notes, "It's a thing with bodies. Moving so it feels good. By yourself or someone else."
